Extracurricular Summer Opportunities
Please see below for extracurricular opportunities for students to apply to.  We will update with more as we receive them.

ACLU Summer Advocacy Program
The ACLU Summer Advocacy Program brings together high school students to participate in a firsthand learning experience for the next generation of social justice advocates. During this week-long program in Washington, DC, students participate in electives and seminars led by lobbyists, community activists, lawyers, and ACLU experts to enhance their knowledge of civil liberties, social justice issues, and advocacy campaigns.

Camp Cardiac and Camp Neuro Richmond 2020
1-week summer day camps for high school students interested in exploring careers in medicine, run by medical students in over 30 cities nationwide. 


Catawba College Center for the Environment

Open to students ages 14-17 interested in Environmental Studies.

Christopher Newport University Summer Humanities Institute
The Summer Humanities Institute will expose students to a wide range of ideas, values and people instrumental to the founding of the American republic.

Cornerstone Summer Institute at UVA
The Cornerstone Summer Institute is a week-long summer camp at the University of Virginia where high school students learn about slavery and its legacies by exploring the University, Charlottesville, and area landmarks. The camp provides rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to engage in historical investigation, archaeological excavation, and community engagement in order to learn and develop thinking skills that will prepare them for success in college and beyond.

Duke University Summer Session
Students in grades 9-12 can enroll in personal enrichment classes with a global perspective. 

Experience America
Programs developed with the University of Washington in Seattle and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FiDM) in Los Angeles.  Programs include Entrepreneurship, Game Experience, Fashion at FiDM, and Experience Japan.

Explore Engineering
Explore Engineering is a series of immersive engineering design courses for high school sophomore, junior and senior girls at Sweet Briar College in south central Virginia. Weekend events are offered in the spring and fall, and a weeklong pre-college, for-credit course is offered in the summer.

George Washington Pre-College Programs
Pre-College provides students with an extraordinary opportunity for an enriching summer experience at a top university. High school students benefit from GW's expertise in a variety of topics, including global development, international relations, public policy and administration, politics, diplomacy, history, biomedical engineering, museum studies and the arts.

Gettysburg College Camp Psych
Provides a window into how psychological science works for students in grades 10-12.

Gettysburg College Writing Camp

Provides an in-depth introduction to all four genres of creative writing: poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and writing for stage and screen.

Longwood University Economics and Personal Finance Course
For students looking to complete Economics and Personal Finance over the summer and receive college credit.

NYU Summer Programs for High School Students
Students can earn college credit while taking courses in favorite subjects or by exploring new areas of interest.

Pace University Summer Scholars Institute
Get a first-hand look at the college experience by taking classes and living on campus.  Academic tracks include Business, Criminal Justice, Digital Film Production, Psychology, Theater Arts.

Rappahannock Community College High School Online STEM Camp
Are you interested in Arduino coding and robotics?  Health Sciences, your heart or muscles?  Do you want to learn how to control a robot with your mind?  Then this camp is for you!  June 22-26 8:30 am to 12:30 pm or 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies
Stanford University is offering the opportunity to investigate topics not typically taught in secondary schools.  Students will attend courses over the summer where they can study Business, Humanities, Arts, or the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory's Outreach Summer Program.

summerFAB High School Architecture Program
In this four-week summer design-build program, high school participants experience phases of an architectural project, from initial design concepts to building a full-scale construction on a site on campus and get college credit for successfully completing the program.

University of Virginia Curry School of Education Summer Enrichment Program
We offer quality learning experiences designed to cultivate interest and potential in a wide variety of fields and disciplines.  Qualifying students should be identified as gifted or show high potential in academic fields or intellectual, creative, artistic and/or leadership capacities.

VCUarts Drawing Unplugged
Brought to you by the VCUarts Art Foundation Program, Drawing Unplugged is a 5-Saturday summer drawing course for rising high school seniors.

VCU Dental Career Exploration (DCE) & Dental Hygiene Career Exploration (DHCE)
DCE and DHCE are offered to high school students from the city of Richmond and Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties who are interested in exploring a career in dentistry or dental hygiene. Preference will be given to highly-qualified, underrepresented minority, first generation college, or students interested in serving in under-served communities, but is open to all applicants.  
DCE is a two-week, non-residential program for high school students who want to explore dentistry through hands-on lab activities and interactive workshops.  DHCE is a three-day, non-residential program for high school students who want to explore dental hygiene through hands-on lab activities and interactive workshops.

VCU SAT Summer Institute
Two summer sessions on VCU's campus with experienced instructors using official preparation guides from the College Board.

Virginia Space Grant Consortium
Free. statewide STEM program for current 8th and 9th graders.  Sessions are offered at Old Dominion University, Virginia Tech, and University of Virginia.

Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps
The Virginia State Parks Youth Conservation Corps is now accepting applications for crewmember positions.  You must be 14-17 years old, and will live in Virginia's state parks for a three-week session and will earn a stipend.

Virginia Tech Black College Institute Pre-College Program

Virginia Tech invites talented, high achieving and intellectually curious rising high school juniors and seniors to participate in a 5-day academic summer enrichment program at Virginia Tech's main campus in Blacksburg.  Programs include Agriculture and Life Sciences, Architecture and Urban Studies, Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Natural Resources and Environment, Science, and Veterinary Medicine.

Wake Forest University Summer Immersion Program
A meaningful way for high school students to gain first-hand access to the field of law.  Highlights include criminal justice, interdisciplinary causes of wrongful convictions, mistaken eyewitness identification, false confessions, the role of forensic DNA and non-DNA testing, and policy and legislative reforms.

William and Mary Law Courses  2020 Summer Courses
This summer, William & Mary Law School offers an exceptional opportunity for high school students to experience law-related courses in the comfort of their homes using an interactive videoconferencing platform.
 Courses will be offered online, and students may join us for one, two, or all three courses. Cost is between $225-$350 per course.
